Punta Sur is a private beachfront community between Akumal and Tulum, and I always joke that it is my favorite Akumal suburb. The truth is that it really is. The location makes life simple. You are almost the same distance from both Cancun Airport and Tulum Airport, and being directly across from the Tulum Country Club gives you easy access to its amenities and the golf course.
You are about 25 minutes from the entrance to the Tulum hotel zone and only a short drive from Playa del Carmen. It places you in a very comfortable middle point along the coast. The access road from the highway is extremely short, and because the neighborhood is small, it always feels quiet and tucked away.
The ocean in front of Punta Sur is one of its greatest highlights. The currents in this area keep the shoreline clear, so sargassum rarely settles here. The water stays bright and clean, and the views from the homes are truly beautiful. The beachfront is mostly rocky, but you can walk five minutes north to the sandy beach at Aventuras Akumal or five minutes south to the beach at Akumal Sur. Both are connected by the coastal walking path that passes right in front of the homes.
After spending many years working in Punta Sur and selling several properties here, I can say that one of its biggest advantages is that it is one of the few beachfront communities with municipal water. It is a rare benefit on this coastline and one of the reasons I continue to appreciate this area so much.
